Absolutely. There are plenty of more beautiful cars. BUTit's still somehow (to my eyes) the least bad looking car to ever come out. E36 M3 4-door with a 5-speed manual was the car I wanted for a long, long time growing up. I know we're suppossed to like the E46 better (and I do love it!) but E36 is just sooooo good and it remains my favorite.

With the E36’s popularity comes a cult following, and consequently, a massive selection of aftermarket parts, at affordable prices. So, next time someone harasses you about buying another project car, you can assure them it was a frugal choice (while also asserting that you do not have a BMW addiction). Professional
Yes!! The 316i is a great car as a first car to get, especially if you are trying to avoid the engine displacement tax as well. It is a small engine, so it should be good on taxes. Plus at your age, it is perfect and you get to own a really great looking car. The 4 cylinder engines are very easy to learn on and fix. You can't go wrong.
Wayn if I was the one to choose with your cash, I will look on ebay for a good condition E36 325i between 1994-1995. Give 1000 for the car and with the rest 3k buy bucket seats, harness, steering wheel, short shifter, replace all fluids in the car, K&N filter, electric fan, chip the motor, coilovers, poly bushing, weld the differential, and
